The Victorian Competition and Efficiency Commission after Four Years

Graham Evans

Economic Papers, 2009, vol. 28, issue 1, pages 39-48

Abstract: This paper reviews the performance of the Victorian Competition and Efficiency Commission since it was set up in July 2004 as an independent advisor to the Victorian Government on regulation reform and business competitiveness. The Commission undertakes inquiries into issues that the government refers to it; reviews regulatory impact statements and business impact assessments; and administers competitive neutrality policy. There is evidence that the Commission is contributing to improvements in the regulatory and competitive environment in Victoria, but there are opportunities for further improvements.
