A Research and Development Module Supplementing the National Accounts

Frits Bos (), Hugo Hollanders () and Steven Jan Keuning ()

Review of Income and Wealth, 1994, vol. 40, issue 3, pages 273-86

Abstract: This paper presents a national accounting framework that is tailored to a description of the role of research and development (R&D) in the national economy. The main differences from the standard national accounts are some changes in basic concepts and the introduction of additional, more detailed, classifications. The framework facilitates drawing macroeconomic conclusions from all kinds of data on R&D. Figures presented in this way can serve as a data base for modeling the role of R&D in the national economy.
