Abstract:
The evolution of the Social Economy concept over the last 30 years is analyzed in this article, both from the point of view of its own protagonists and its presence in scientific, specialized literature. Together with the Social Economy concept, the non-profit sector concept is also analyzed as present in the Nonprofit Organization literature, emphasizing the similarities and differences between both approaches. Both approaches use the term Third Sector as a synonymous expression. The article concludes by analyzing the current conceptual ambiguities in both approaches that blur the borders in the boundary of the Third Sector as an institutional sector differentiated from the economic system.
