The Half-Life of Dead Economists

Gary M. Anderson, David M. Levy and Robert Tollison ()

Canadian Journal of Economics, 1989, vol. 22, issue 1, pages 174-83

Abstract: This paper utilizes the Social Science Citation Index and G. J. Stigler and C. L. Friedland's 1985 Calendar of Great Economists to test several implications of an efficient market model of scientific research. Among the questions investigated are how fast an economist's work decays over time in relation to current economic research and whether one's scientific productivity is enhanced by being a member of a "school."
