Abstract:
If a critical mass of Canadians does not care, then no politician is going to promote services for people with mental illness and their families. What explains why people care about some things? We may be able to learn from private sector marketers about how to energize a debate around the urgent need for a national strategy for reforming mental health and addictions treatment. We need to find a way to connect what Canadians think is important in their lives to the issue of how to improve mental health and addictions treatment; making our ideas and concerns their ideas and concerns.
