Abstract:
Following the worldwide surge in cooperative alliances and mergers & acquisitions, this article attempts to evaluate the effects of the national environment on alliance strategies. Based on a sample of 4632 interfirm linkages formed by French and German companies, the empirical study shows that, despite certain elements of convergence, the behavior of firms continues to be influenced by the institutional, societal and cultural environment.
