Abstract: This article investigates the variations in the incidence of poverty depending on the changes in economic, social, and demographic factors of the Turkish employees. The objective of this study is to examine the relationship between likelihood of poverty and unionization in the Turkish labor market. Because of the lack of comprehensive data, a detailed research on the poverty issues in the Turkish labor market in great detail has long been a problem for researchers. Previous studies have emphasized the poverty measurements using various definitions of poverty. This study focuses to test whether the unions are really effective in reducing the probability of poverty among their members versus non-unionized employees.
