Black Monday in Retrospect and Prospect: A Roundtable

Martin S. Feldstein, Franco Modigliani, Allen Sinai and Robert M. Solow

Eastern Economic Journal, 1988, vol. 14, issue 4, pages 337-348

Abstract: The Plenary Session of the EEA Meetings consisted of a roundtable discussion of the causes and implications of the stock market crash in the Fall of 1987. The four participants, Martin Feldstein, Franco Modigliani, Allen Sinai, and Robert Solow, spoke to a large audience of severarl hundred economists. In view of the widespread interest in this session, we have transcribed the audiotape and, with some modest editing, present here the statements of each of the participants.
