‘JOB RESERVATIONS’ IN A GLOBALIZED ECONOMY: CHALLENGES AND INADEQUACIES

Abstract: With the reforms launched and pursued by different political regimes at the center, globalization has become a reality. Its impact on various segments of the economy is felt differently by different sections of the society. This article analyzes the growth experience in India since the 1991 reforms in terms of theoretical, empirical and policy experiences and aims to map the challenges to, and the inadequacies of, ‘job reservations’ in ensuring ‘efficiency’ in our economic endeavors and welfare of the human capital. It also suggests a policy framework to counter these threats.
