The IUP Journal of Journal of Public Administration, 2007, vol. III, issue 3, pages 81-95

Abstract: The planners and policymakers have accepted the role of Public Sector Enterprises (PSEs) as one of the deciding factors in national growth, and governmental policies have tended to replace private monopolies in most industries with the installation of public undertakings. The PSEs occupy a predominant position in the Indian economy, especially after the announcement of the Industrial Policy 1956 and rapid expansion of the public sector in all the planning periods. This paper delves into the important issues connected with the performance evaluation of public sector enterprises in general, and the APSRTC in particular. The paper also focuses on the physical and financial performance of the APSRTC since its inception. The important issues, such as revenue, expenditure, tariff hike, and concessions with regard to the corporation are analyzed .
