Abstract: El nivel de ingreso no solo determina el gasto sanitario sino también las condiciones socioeconómicas de una sociedad, y estas son parte fundamental en la determinación de las necesidades que se traducen en demandas sanitarias. En este marco, la discusión de si estamos ante un bien de lujo o necesario determina la postura acerca de la intervención del estado en la provisión y financiamiento de estos bienes. El objetivo de este trabajo es estimar la elasticidad ingreso de los gastos sanitarios y utilizar un método de comparación de rectas para observar si aquel parámetro cambia a diferentes niveles de ingreso. The income level not only determines the health care expenditure but also the socioeconomic conditions of a society. These last are a fundamental part in the determination of the needs that are translated in health care demands. In this frame, the discussion about if health care is a necessary or a luxury good, determines our position about the state intervention in its provision and financing. The purpose of this paper is to consider the income elasticity of the health care expenditures, and to use a test of equality between sets of coefficients in linear regressions to know if that parameter changes at different income levels.
