Losing Faith in the Dollar: >i>Can It Remain the World's Dominant Reserve Currency?>/i>

Robert Carbaugh and David Hedrick

Challenge, 2008, vol. 51, issue 3, pages 93-114

Abstract: The fall of the dollar has affected the entire world. But is it permanent? This piece reviews the forces that have contributed to the weakness of the dollar and its losing favor as the world's premier currency. The economists discuss the structural problems in the U.S. economy that, unless addressed, will continue to weaken the dollar's standing as the premier reserve currency. But they believe the dollar will not be easily displaced as the main world currency in the near future. They provide a fine primer on the most recent plight of the dollar.
