Abstract:
Since 1990, the European Union has taken the lead in international efforts to limit greenhouse gas emissions and stabilise their atmospheric concentrations. This ambi-tion has been manifested with a number of significant political decisions taken since then, the latest of which came in the form of the conclusions of the European Council in March 2007. This paper considers some of the most relevant documents approved by the European Commission on this subject and reviews European performance on greenhouse gas reduction, starting from the most recent emission figures.
