Abstract: CAIRNS J. A. and HARRIS A. H. (1988) Firm location and differential barriers to entry in the offshore oil supply industry, Reg. Studies 22, 499--506. A survey of North Sea oil supply firms is used to examine their differential access to markets. It is suggested that the nature of the market is such as to limit entry by indigenous firms, particularly in the core activities characterized by high technology and long lead-times. The necessity for proximity to customers demands the setting up of substantial supply activity by companies with headquarters at other locations. CAIRNS J. A. et HARRIS A. H. Es wird angedeutet, dass die Natur dieses Marktes dazu führt, den Einstieg alteingesessener Firmen zu beschränken, besonders bei den wichtigsten Operationen, die durch Hochtechnologie und lange Anlaufzeiten gekennzeichnet sind. Die Notwendigkeit der Nähe zum Kunden verlangt die Organisation einer beträchtlichen Belieferungsleistung durch Firmen, deren Hauptgeschäftsstellen sich an anderen Standorten befinden.
