The aim of this paper is two-fold: to analyse the extent of corporate grouping in the main industrial districts of Emilia Romagna and the reasons for their formation and development; and to show how their evolution in recent years requires rethinking the very concept of industrial district in favour of a unit of analysis capable of grasping the role taken by ownership linkages among firms. In this respect, we suggest a taxonomy of business groups that brings out the key role played by 'district groups'. The choice of Emilia Romagna as our field of investigation is motivated by the fact that in a number of ways the region's industrial system represents a paradigmatic model of local capitalism, combining the large-scale presence of industrial districts with a marked entrepreneurial spirit, strong social cohesion and an exceptionally efficient system of local institutions and intermediate organizations. In this sense, even though we start from the empirical study of a case (albeit a significant one like that of Emilia Romagna), our paper has the more general purpose of depicting the forms and ways through which a special form of local capitalism characterized by the massive presence of industrial districts has evolved, while at the same time signalling the need to reconsider the theoretical concepts and methods of empirical inquiry used to analyse and interpret the new forms taken on by local capitalism in Italy. Primo, cet article cherche à analyser l'importance des regroupements d'entreprise au sein des principaux districts industriels de la région Emilia Romagna et les facteurs qui expliquent leur naissance et leur développement; et secundo, à démontrer comment leur évolution au cours des dernières années nécessite une remise en question de la notion de district industriel en faveur d'une unité d'analyse qui permet une meilleure compréhension du rôle des liens de propriété entre les entreprises. A cet égard, on propose une taxonomie de regroupements d'entreprise qui fait ressortir le rôle primordial joué par les 'districts de groupe'. Le choix d'Emilia Romagna comme champ d'enquête remonte au fait que, pour de nombreuses raisons, le système industriel de la région représente un modèle paradigmatique du capitalisme local, alliant une présence à grande échelle des districts industriels à un esprit d'entreprise marqué, une forte cohésion sociale, et un système d'institutions locales et d'organismes intermédiaires exceptionnellement efficace. Dieser Aufsatz verfolgt zwei Ziele: die Analyse des Unfangs korporativer Anlagen in den Hauptindustriegebieten der Emilia Romagna, sowie die Gründe für ihre Bildung und Entwicklung, und aufzuzeigen, inwiefern ihre Entwicklung in den letzten Jahren verlangt, stattdessen das bloße Konzept eines Industriegebietes als Bestandteil einer Analyse aufzufassen, die fähig ist, die Rolle zu erfassen, die Besitzverknüpfungen unter Firmen innewohnt. Es wird deswegen vorgeschlagen, eine Taxonomie von Geschäftsgruppen durchzuführen, die herausstellt, welche Schlüsselrolle 'Gebietsgruppen' spielen. Die Wahl der Emilia Romagna als Untersuchungsgebiet wurde durch die Tatsache bestimmt, daß das Industriesystem der Region in mancher Hinsicht ein beispielhaftes Modell eines örtlich gewachsenen Kapitalismus darstellt, der in großem Maßstab angelegte Industriegebiete mit deutlichem Unternehmungsgeist, ausgeprägtem gesellschaftlichem Zusammenhalt und einem außergerwöhnlich leistungsfähigen System örtlicher Institutionen und mittleren Organisationen verbindet. Obschon von einer impirischen Studie eines Falles (wenn auch eines unbedeutenden, wie dem der Emilia Romagna) ausgegangen wird, verfolgt der Aufsatz in dieser Hinsicht den ailgemeineren Zweck, Formen und Wege aufzuzeichnen, die die Entwicklung einer speziellen Form eines örtlichen Kapitalismus geen statteten, der sich dank gebalitem Auftreten von Industriegebieten entwickelt hat, und zugleich auf die Notwendigkeit hinweist, die theoretischen Konzepte und Methoden empirischer Untersuchung erneut zu überdenken, die dazu benutzt werden, neu auftretende Formen eines lokalen Kapitalismus in Italien zu analysieren und zu interpretieren.
