Strategies to Boost Growth and Employment in Austria

Karl Aiginger ()

WIFO Monatsberichte (monthly reports), 2005, vol. 78, issue 6, pages 421-441

Abstract: Economic growth, both in Austria and as an EU average, is not strong enough to make substantial inroads on unemployment. It was not least due to this factor that the European Council awarded maximum priority to the growth and employment targets and requested that member states should each present a national growth strategy. The Austrian federal government asked WIFO to propose growth-inducing measures for the early May summit. The initiatives suggested by WIFO in seven policy fields are suitable to accelerate economic growth and are to be incorporated in an overall strategy.
