Abstract:
Altai is the only region of Russia, bordering China, which does not have direct highway between adjacent states. Building of the straight transit highway, connecting China and Russia, in the Altai region has important strategic meaning. Chinese-Russian Altai frontier region is mostly mountainous area, 3280, 84 yards above the sea level. Daban Kanas (2974.63 yards above sea level) is used as the only pass. There are four variants of straight highway routs on the China territory: East, Middle, West ¹1 and ¹2. After the complex comparison of the four routes concerning the plan of cost value of building, transport and ecological effectiveness the project-way, that combines West ¹1 and ¹2, is recommended. 1.29 milliard yeans will be necessary in future. In April 2005 delegation of Siberian Federal Region (SFR) of Russian Federation visited Xinjiang. The first Deputy of authorized representative of RF in SFR I. I. Prostyakov expressed the idea in the negotiations that SFR RF hoped, that building of highway and railway on the boundary territory of states and opening of direct connection way would advance development of transport and tourism. Chinese party supports the realization of bilateral construction of transit passageway and has started preparation of building of the highway. They hope that SFR RF will attempt the realization of construction works of the highway on Russian territory too.
