Abstract: This paper discusses the legacy of the institutionalist thought in the face of Veblen, Commons and Mitchell contributions. The remarkable complexity and scope of these contributions, despite being characterized by a still incipient theoretical content, is an important source of interaction with various approaches, allowing to further the institutionalist research agenda. We discuss here the interactions between institutionalists, evolutionaries and post-keynesians. Such a discussion shows that institutionalism is more comprehensive than suggests the relevant contribution of transaction cost economics.
