Abstract:
This paper aims to analyse the workers distribution in informal activities of the Brazilian labor market according to the occupational and regional profile of these workers. The analysis appraises informal workers as those that work at companies or residences without legal contract and also the "own-account" or autonomous workers. There are first examined some theoretic concepts about informality, aiming to characterize the specific nature of these situations in the Brazilian labor market. Following, the paper evaluates the regional diversities among these occupations, according to occupational categories using a classification defined for the objectives of this research. The empirical analysis was based in the IBGE/1999-PNAD's data, considering these workers occupational distribution, years in school and average earnings.
