Abstract: The logistics information system is part of the information system of the organization that is integrated in the supply chain and is correlated with the partner organizations. An effective logistics information system ensures communication on two levels, between organizations and within the organization. According to the types of activities considered, the major components of the logistics information system are the following: order management system, warehouse management system, transportation management system. The role of these components is to support the planning, implementation and the control of specific logistics activities. The paper presents examples of data that are provided by each of the three components of the logistics information system. From an organizational perspective, there are three macro-processes within the supply chain: customer relationship management, internal supply chain management and the supplier relationship management. The paper also details the processes and activities that characterize each of the logistics macro-processes.
