Abstract: Drawing on an extensive survey of empirical work in the field of information technologies and biotechnologies, the paper highlights the relevance of new technologies in improving the quality and quantity of women's employment in the modern sector. The analysis identifies the differential impacts of these new technologies on women and men and explores the social and economic factors that lead to such differential impacts. The paper locates points of intervention by policymakers for redressing gender imbalances in the structure of paid employment.
