Shehu Uthman Dan Fodio and his economic ideas

Abstract: In an attempt to investigate Muslim economic thinking in the 12th century Hijrah, corresponding 18th century C E, the present paper explores economic ideas of one of the greatest Muslim personalities of the period, Shehu Uthman Dan Fodio (1167-1233/1754-1817), who is commonly known as revivalist and renovator of religious beliefs and practices and founder of the Sokoto Khilafat. At the outset, to provide background knowledge of the personality of Shehu Uthman Dan Fodio, the paper sheds light on time and environment in which he lived, his life and work, and his impact.
