Consumption and Expenditure Elasticity of Meat in Adana: A Crodd-Section Study

Abstract: In this study, household meat consumption and meat expenditure were investigated and expenditure elasticity of disaggregated meat were estimated. The data used in this was obtained by questionnaire from 400 household in different socia-economic class in Adana. In this research, Amsterdam scale used for determining family size and it was calculated as 3,8 person. According to this family size, it was estimated as 26,5 kg per capita annual meat consumption. Using Engel curve’s (based on “Stone’s Linear Expenditure System”), expenditure elasticity of disaggregated meat were estimated as 0,70, 0,90, 1,10, 0,60 and 1,70 for food, total meat, red meat, poultry meat and processed meat products respectively.
