Abstract: The purpose of this paper is to provide basic information on the structure of the Czech banking sector and once having done so, demonstrate main areas of changes in EU area with respect to the very same financial markets and banking industry. It is obvious that even Czech financial institutions and banks as a part of the non-EU state, along with the banks in the EU area and around the world, have been experiencing new situations, problems and development relating to euro long before the euro currency was even released in January 1999.
