Bifurcations in regional migration dynamics

Fan-chin Kung ()

Urban/Regional from EconWPA

Abstract: We study regional migration dynamics in a general framework and provide a foundation for the commonly used two-stage quilibrium. We also examine the robustness of bifurcations when parameters change along arbitrary smooth (C1) paths. We show that bifurcations with crossing equilibrium loci are rare, which include, for example, the popular pitchfork bifurcation.
