Abstract: This paper is a survey of some aspects of the U.K. strikes, particuarly for the late 1960s - early 1970s period, and a survey of bargaining theory and the theory of strikes. Both theory and evidence combine to present a distinction between "noisy" strikes, and more substantive strikes which play a role in the resolution of issues through collective bargaining
