Abstract: countby returns the number of groups of observations for which an expression is always true, sometimes true, and never true. stcount is a special version of countby in which a case is a subject, so you don't have to re-type the st key-variables. xtcount is a special version of countby in which a case is a panel, so you don't have to re-type the i-identifier. For those with Stata v6 on an internet-accessible machine, install by typing .net cd http://www.fss.uu.nl/soc/iscore/stata/ then .net install countby
