Abstract: The extremely complex scientific and practical task of effectively managing the socialist economy plays a substantial role in the acceleration of our country's social and economic development. Public ownership of the means of production and the possibility of managing the national economy from a single center in the interests of the whole of society and of all its citizens create exceptionally favorable conditions for the scientific management of the economy. But the realization of effective management in actuality is beset with numerous difficulties that stem in large measure from the [economy's] vast scale, the complexity of the structure and interrelationships in a modern economy, and the large number of variants of potential management decisions.
