Abstract:
Nowadays sustainable development concerns not only corporations, companies of all types and sizes, but also local or national communities and development regions at national or global level. The unprecedented development of information and communication technologies (ICT) lately, their use in all areas of economic, social, cultural life, etc. has determined the researchers to study and evaluate to what extent they influence the development of companies and local, regional or national communities. The paper analyzed, through statistical models, the correlation between the level of use of communication technologies by organizations and the territorial sustainable development of the local communities in which these organizations operate. Empirical findings showed that the use of new communication technologies led directly to the increase of activities from priority areas for the sustainable development of the local community, such as the health, the production and supply of energy and drinking water, and the waste processing. These results can encourage the managers of organizations to implement such technologies and the decision makers from local and central administration to promote and stimulate these ICT activities.
