Abstract:
Firm sales play a fundamental role in the dynamization of the economy. However, they respond to acontext in which variations may arise, depending on political, economic, health, etc. situations. Since 2020, the world has been going through a devastating health crisis caused by COVID-19,and government representatives have taken measures to protectt hem selves from this virus. This paper focuses on the quantitative analysis of the sales and exports of Ecuadorian companies bymeans of a Discontinuous Regression model over time, taking as a threshold the confinement measure dictated in Ecuador on March 16, 2020. The sales and exports of the companies are considered on a monthly basis from April 2019 to March 2021obtained from the Internal Revenue Service. A negative and significant effect on sales and exports due to the implementation of the confinement policy is reported; however, it is not causal.
