A chapter in PAUL HALMOS Celebrating 50 Years of Mathematics, 1991, pp 205-220 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract When asked recently about how he does mathematics, Paul Halmos replied “Since a lot of my work has been in operator theory and infinite dimensional Hilbert spaces, and since the most easily accessible part of that is matrix theory and finite dimensional vector spaces, I start by looking at a 2 by 2 matrix.”
