Abstract:
Abstract The notion of capacity as a fundamental quantity associated with a smooth surface was treated exhaustively by Polya and Szego in a series of papers over more than twenty years following earlier work by Fekete (1923) and many others who considered the problem of determining the charge accumulated on an electrostatic condenser maintained at a constant potential. See Polya and Szego (1951) and Payne (1967) for extensive references.
