Abstract:
The object of this text is to treat the question of reports(connections) among individual, society and the freedom in Karl Polanyi's work. It seems at first sight that the central debate turns around the tensions among individual and institutions. Karl Polanyi treated these questions in several texts. There is at first the last chapter of the Big Transformation. The problem more general than we want to point on is to know if Karl Polanyi has under estimated no importance of the individual in the problem of the freedom because, contrary to what he believed, the Big transformation did not take place even if the autoregulating market, such as it describes it, disappeared well and truly and if the liberalism in the sense where it discusses it died. In this sense we live dan a post liberal world today. The economic liberalism as constituent element of our fundamental values confirmed and developed contrary to what probably Karl Polanyi could think. The question which occupies us is so to know which validity it is necessary to grant to the ideas developed by Karl Polanyi on the questions of freedom and individual. Is it necessary to consider them as purely and simply disabled persons and totally marked by an unbearable holisme either can one tempt a reconstruction of its position? This attempt seems to us justified by the fact that the dangers which denounced Karl Polanyi did not disappear. All the criticism that he developed against the privatization of the currency is today full of current events. It is not necessary to develop for a long time to notice that financial markets, or prevails this logic of the autoregulating market, exercise their dictatorship on the biggest part of the governments, even if all do not undergo this dictatorship with the same intensity. In every case the problem of the limitation of the freedom of these actors tends to become today a question of first importance in the public debates and in the mastery of the fate which nations want to keep(preserve) or to reconquer. To answer our question it is necessary to resume the texts of Go-cart Polanyi: The big transformation and the texts published by Alfredo Salsano in " The libertà in una società complessa ". We shall approach at first the question of the freedom to clarify how Polanyi deals with this problem through the question of institutions and threats which they make press on it. It is only then that we shall try to define what could be the conception of the individual and the connections among individual and freedom and among freedom and democracy in the polanyienne thought. Finally we shall evoke briefly the program of defence of the freedom which Polanyi expresses to end on some educations of his(her) analysis
