Abstract: The economic crisis observed in Mexico since 2009 has had important social results, such as a rising unemployment, a growing precarious employment, low incomes, lack of social security, increasing levels of poverty, more families with female leadership, among others. This situation has led many Sonoran families to a higher social vulnerability or to reduce the economic and social resources to successfully deal with the adverse situation. As a result of a higher vulnerability, housing became an asset threatened by the economic and social environment. This article analyzes the social policy followed by INFONAVIT in Sonora, aiming to support families which, by different reasons, have stopped paying their housing credits or else are seriously pressured to do it. From 2009 to 2012 a survey was carried out in Sonoran homes and information collected was analyzed taking into account variables, such as: employment, income, expenses, family, gender, and debt. As a conclusion, nowadays families are more vulnerable in an economic and social unfavorable setting.
