Abstract: More than 350 millions of net-users are "friends" on Facebook, like several hundred millions of others are on Myspace or Skyrock, a French social network site joining blogging and profiles tools. This article analyze how French teenagers are using social network sites tools, like friends' lists, recommendation agents, search engines and reporting facilities, to "manage their friends" online. Authors are questioning stakes included in resorting to management tools to handle with various social relationships. They highlight the complex sociotechnical process resulting from the encounter of a technical tool and a social dynamic, and how both are modified by this encounter.
