Abstract:
The allocation of the good laycans to vessels and the optimal exploitation of quays play an important role in the improvement of the effectiveness of port terminals as they reduce the stay time of vessels in ports and avoid the payment of contractual penalties to shipowners due to the overrun of the laytime. In this paper, the Berth Allocation Problem is modeled in order to reduce the late departures of vessels by maximizing the difference between the despatch money and the demurrage. Only one binary variable is used to determine the spatiotemporal allocations of vessels, and the spatiotemporal constraints are covered by a disjunctive constraint. After the resolution of this problem, laycans are allocated to new chartered vessels. The approach is illustrated by a numerical example.
