Abstract: Humanities research remains underfunded, particularly by the EU with its top-down approach that fails to take into consideration the societal, economic and cultural impacts. This paper calls on the EU to actually look at what researchers do rather than inciting them to simply attempt to fit into other paradigms. It deplores notably the lipservice paid to the humanities in current calls and the absence of the humanities from Horizons 2020.
