Abstract: China's ambition is to become the world's largest economic power within three decades. The struggle for influence between the two states highlights a clash of civilization and ideology, between the primacy of individual interest and that of the national power of the socialist market economy. From the economic, military, scientific and technological point of view, the United States still has a substantial advantage, but it is shrinking faster than expected. However, China also has loopholes that could hamper its ambitions.
