No 2015-6, CEI Working Paper Series from Center for Economic Institutions, Institute of Economic Research, Hitotsubashi University

Abstract: Based on various publications of the Government of Pakistan, education statistics are compiled to obtain detailed information on dynamics of the education sector in the country. First, cross-section information is tabulated for multiple years. Second, long-term time series for three key variables (the number of educational institutions, the number of students enrolled, and the number of teachers) are compiled for two levels corresponding to the lower primary (1st to 5th grades) and the upper primary and lower secondary (6th to 10th grades). Using the long-term estimates, gross-enrollment ratios are plotted over the 65 years, which show a gradual improvement. The resulting tables and figure are provided in this paper in a bilingual format.
