Abstract:
Among the Western European markets the UK is the second home furniture consumer, providing 16% of WE demand and the third importer, absorbing about 14% of WE imports. If compared to the other European countries, British furniture distribution is the one with the highest share of non-specialist retailers, due to the relevant presence of alternative channels like e-commerce, mail order/catalogues and department stores. Consumers increasingly use stores as ‘try before you buy’ showrooms to make purchasing decisions, but use online methods to purchase. The report provides trends in home furniture consumption, analysis of the furniture distribution system by channel, retail formats and sales performances of top retailing companies operating in the United Kingdom.
