Studii Economice from Institutul National de Cercetari Economice (INCE)

Abstract: In the process of structural adjustment of the economy, due to the need to integrate into the productive and commercial circuit of the EU, the Central and Eastern European (CEE) states register an important competitiveness gap, differentiated by industrial branches. The gaps are, as a rule, larger in the branches with medium and high technology. This determines that the process of convergence with the developed countries of Western Europe (WE) requires a longer period in the case of these activities. In this study, we analyze the dynamics of differences regarding the structure of technological specialization of production and export, as well as the evolution of the territorial concentration of production, on different groups of economic activities and products. The objective is to investigate the existence of convergence / divergence of specialization between CEE and WE countries.
