Social interaction and its role in promoting environmental sustainability: A sociological study of local community practices

Abstract: Social interaction among community members is an important factor that helps adopt and promote a sustainable approach to environmental development. This facilitates achieving a balance between the needs of community members, their respect for environmental laws, and the preservation of natural resources. The study aimed to determine the impact of social interaction in promoting environmental awareness and to analyze the influence of social factors on participation in environmental development. It also highlights some of the challenges facing environmental sustainability. The focus was on Saudi society, with a sample consisting of 265 males and females of various ages and educational levels. Researchers employed both quantitative and qualitative methods to align with the study's objectives. The analysis revealed that social interaction among community members and social media play significant roles in promoting sustainable environmental development. Additionally, social interaction enhances environmental sustainability and protection from certain challenges. It also contributes to solving some of the problems faced by the environment. In conclusion, the researchers emphasized the importance of social interaction within society, particularly in Saudi Arabia, as it contributes to advancing environmental development and fostering pro-environmental behavior.
