Abstract: Diabetes mellitus is today comparable to a silent pandemic, which physically affects more than 300 million people, with a significant economic impact on health systems. According to the American Diabetes Association (ADA) guidelines (2021), diabetes may be diagnosed basing on plasma glucose criteria (Fasting Plasma Glucose [FPG] and 2h-plasma glucose during Oral Glucose Tolerance Test [OGTT]) or glycated haemoglobin (HbA1c) criteria [1].
