Abstract: Currently, there are only a limited number of treatments approved to treat hair loss, and most of these are associated with a range of side effects. Research into novel therapeutic agents capable of promoting hair growth with fewer side effects is therefore necessary. Oxidative stress is a leading cause of hair loss due to its negative effects on scalp skin. Using antioxidants to reduce oxidative stress could therefore be potentially beneficial in promoting hair growth. As Indian head cactus (Parodia ottonis ssp. ottonis) has considerable antioxidant activity and contains substances such as adenosine that have been reported to be effective in promoting hair growth.
