Abstract: Rabies is a zoonotic disease caused by infection with viruses of the genus Lyssavirus, transmitted through saliva of an infected animal, through bites and licking of mucous membranes or skin contact solutions. After its entry, viral multiplication occurs at the site of inoculation, subsequently invading the peripheral nervous system, and through centripetal migration it reaches the central nervous system where its replication occurs, causing encephalitis with neuronal degeneration of the spinal cord and brain that leads to death.
