Abstract:
Clarithromycin is a macrolide antibiotic and has good activity against Moraxella catarrhalis, Chlamydia species, Helicopter pylori, Borrelia burgdorferi, Legionella pneumonia, Mycoplasma leprae, non-tuberculous mycobacteria, and some protozoa such as Toxoplasma gondii, Cryptosporidium, and Plasmodium species. Clarithromycin is absorbed rapidly after oral administration and is metabolized presystemically and 14-hydroxy-(R)-clarithromycin is the main microbiological active metabolite and clarithromycin is also N-demethylated.
