Abstract:
This case details the events that occurred following an elderly woman who originally presented with altered mental status. She was admitted with acute metabolic encephalopathy secondary to a urinary tract infection and treated with antibiotics, but her mental status continued to deteriorate. Over the course of the next month, she experienced rapid neuropsychiatric decline, eventually resulting in death within 35 days. Through the collaborative efforts of the psychiatry and neurology services, the patient received an in-depth workup and accurate diagnosis.
