Abstract:
An inflammation of the pharynx, pharyngitis, also known as a sore throat, can be caused by bacterial or viral infections, allergies or irritants. Swollen lymph nodes, fever, difficulty swallowing and sore throat are some of the symptoms that define this disease. Antibiotic treatment is necessary for bacterial causes such as *Strepto- coccus*, although viral pharyngitis is more common. Effective management requires an understanding of the un- derlying reasons, the ability to identify symptoms, and knowing when to seek medical attention.
