DHedge Funds in the World and Turkey and Their Applicability

Abstract:
Hedge Funds became one of the main actors within the financial markets in a short period of time. Once perceived as one of the alternative investment tools that serves only to the wealthy individual investors now they are becoming an attractive investment alternative that addresses broader range of investor base. The roots of Hedge funds, which are not popular in Turkey as they are around the world, goes back to 1949s. In this paper, first we aim to contribute to the literature by defining; the concept of Hedge Funds in simple terms, the strategies employed, the legal regulations on Hedge Funds and pros and cons throughout the history with sample case studies. In conclusion, the paper will give a short evaluation for future prospects of Turkish Hedge Fund Industry.
