Determinants of Technological Progress: Panel Cointegration and Panel Causality Analysis for NIC Countries

Abstract:
Technological development is one of the most important factors of countries' economic growth. In this study determinant of technological progress analyzed for Newly Industrialized Countries by using 1996-2012 period data via panel cointegration and panel causality method. As a result of the analysis it was determinant that the most important factors of technological development are R&D expenditure, high technology product export, GDP per capita, health expenditure, foreign direct investment, total factor productivity and increases in the gross capital formation.
